Best Engineering Management Schools in Texas

by Consultant Jiya
in South America, Texas

Engineering Management (EM) fills the administrative gap between engineers’ technical and engineering problem-solving skills and their ability to oversee the daily operations of today’s complex organizations in the context of the current global economy.

The range of EM encompasses:

  • The first graduate degree program may only accept graduate courses in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or mathematics as transfer credits.
  • All students are required to enroll in the following five core courses. Non-thesis students are required to take an additional five electives, with the limitations noted.
  • Six-semester credits of the thesis will be used in place of two elective courses by thesis students.

INFORMATION ON THE MASTER OF ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT

Typically, Texas offers Master of Science or Master of Engineering Management degree programs in engineering management. In order to accommodate working professionals and give students the option to tailor their degrees, these programs typically offer students flexible options for classes and format. Discover more here about a few of the courses offered at Texas colleges.

The College of Business Administration, the existing MSE programs in electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, and mechanical engineering, as well as the MS in engineering management, and MS in computer science and information technology, all work well together. Students have the chance to advance their technical education and develop the leadership and management skills necessary to oversee engineers and engineering systems.

Online Course

There are thesis, report, and non-thesis options available for the Master of Science (MS) in Engineering Management degree. The department of manufacturing engineering is converting this course to online delivery. For students interested in obtaining qualifications in systems engineering, there is also a Concentration in Systems Engineering option.

The planning, organization, leadership, control, and human element management tasks in production, research and service organizations are designed to be understood from an engineering perspective by students majoring in engineering management.

Basic Courses

Courses from the Cullen College of Engineering and Bauer College of Business are carefully chosen as part of the interdisciplinary nature of the MEMGMT degree to provide the best learning experience in the EM discipline. Six required core courses in the IE Department at the Cullen College of Engineering must be taken by all students:

Organizing Engineering Tasks

  • Engineering Management Quantitative Methods
  • Management of Engineering Projects
  • Engineering Organizational Management
  • Engineering managers should use data analytics for engineering management accounting.
  • Two management-related courses from Bauer College of Business and two technical courses in the engineering discipline of the student’s choice from Cullen College of Engineering. The program director must give his or her approval for each chosen course.

Entry requirements

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required for admission to the master’s program in engineering management, though applicants with bachelor’s degrees in the physical sciences, computer science, or mathematics will also be taken into consideration. Two letters of recommendation, a resume or CV, a statement of goals, and GRE scores are required of applicants.

In addition to the minimum GPA requirement, international applicants for whom English is not their first language must submit online TOEFL scores of 79 or higher (or an overall band score of 6.0 or higher on the IELTS).

GRADE Description

A 30-credit graduate program in engineering management is available entirely online. A minimum of 30 graduate credit hours are needed to earn the Master of Engineering Management degree.

To graduate, you must have a cumulative grade point average of “B” or higher. It is the responsibility of each student to be aware of the degree requirements as outlined in the most recent UH graduate catalog.

Requirements for degrees

The degree requirements cannot be fulfilled with the courses taken to make up for these deficiencies or any other admission requirements. Students who are writing a thesis are required to complete a minimum of six-semester credits of ENM 5999 Thesis Research.

The requirements for a thesis may require more credits, but only six of those credits may be applied toward the degree. Before graduating, nonthesis students must pass the program’s final exam.
