Guidelines for Scholarship Applications

  • First, concentrate on your college or university.

Your college or university of choice is your top and most reliable source of financial aid. The majority of your scholarships, both need-based and merit-based, will come from institutions. You can fill in the gaps with outside scholarships, such as the ones on this list.

  • Start early.

Deadlines for some scholarships are set before your senior year of high school. It’s a good idea to plan out your approach and begin looking for scholarships as soon as possible because even those with later deadlines will require some preparation. Long-term, you’ll save time and effort by doing this.

  • Check out specialized scholarships.

Compared to scholarships that accept applications from a sizable applicant pool, specialized scholarships, like those on this list, are typically simpler to obtain. Look for scholarships that are geared toward people with your interests, skills, or desired major or career. There is no limit to how many jobs you can apply for, so keep doing so!

Important Notes

Funds are given to higher education institutions through grant competitions to support academic opportunities in West Virginia, help students with the fundamentals of college, and inspire them to complete their postsecondary education.

  • Students must be accepted to the appropriate campuses by the deadlines specified for each scholarship to be considered for it.
  • Please carefully read all scholarship-related information. First-time transfer scholarships and non-resident first-time freshman scholarships are both considered for international students.
  • The scholarship won’t be awarded to you directly if you are fully sponsored by a company or by the government.
  • They will instead charge your sponsor a reduced tuition amount. Scholarship consideration is not available to students who receive discounted rates under recognized international articulation agreements.
